Toast is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help build new Embedded Finance capabilities. Toast is built from the ground up for restaurants with over one hundred thousand restaurants using Toast. As a result, we are well-positioned to provide financial services such as lending (loans, credit cards, etc.), equipment financing, and bank accounts tailored specifically to restaurants. We need your help to grow our platform and add the next generation of these products.

*About this roll (Responsibilities)

• Lead technical initiatives while collaborating closely with Design, Product, QA, and other engineering members in developing robust and scalable full-stack software applications
• Define and deliver design feedback, and lead code reviews to guarantee implementation meets requirements
• Proactively shape team discussions and drive consensus on product features, design, marketing, and overall strategy
• Lead architectural discussions and set the technical direction of the roadmap
• Advocate for best coding practices to raise the bar for you, your team, and the company
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to other team members
• Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building software — contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

• 8+ years of back-end experience in Java, Kotlin, or other object-oriented languages
• Proficient with modern web standards and technologies (e.g. REST, GraphQL)
• Experience with distributed systems, enterprise messaging systems, and/or microservices
• Experience delivering high-quality, reliable services to production
• Excellent cross-team communication skills on complex technical topics
• Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild
• Ability to work core EST working hours

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions, if eligible), benefits, and equity (if eligible).

Pay Range
$129,000-$206,000 CAD
